Judge Pamela Luther
Dallas County Court of Criminal Appeals No. 2

About Judge Pamela Luther
Elected 2018
Judge Pamela Luther is a former prosecutor for the Criminal Trial Division for the Dallas County District Attorney's Office. She later represented indigent clients for the Dallas County Public Defender's Office.
She took over Dallas' largest County Criminal Court, the Court of Criminal Appeals No. 2 on January 1, 2019. With almost 4,000 criminal cases pending, many defendants had been awaiting a court setting for so long that their constitutional right to a speedy trial had been violated. Her first priority was to address this problem through systematic research of court records, locating the defendants, working with the District Attorney's Office and holding hearings where evidence could be presented, if any, to justify the lengthy delay.
Another continuing priority is bringing defendants who cannot afford to post bond from the jail into the courtroom so that she can speak with them personally about their circumstances. Her personal interest and concern for their lives has helped many indigent incarcerated people to await the disposition of their cases out free on bond - rather than being "in jail for being poor".
